International Human Solidarity Day is celebrated annually on December 20 and is one of the key holidays aimed at strengthening unity, cooperation and mutual assistance among people. This day was established by the UN in 2005 within the framework of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) with the aim of promoting ideas of solidarity, mutual assistance and social justice in the international community.

Solidarity plays a key role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were approved by the UN in 2015. These goals are aimed at combating poverty, improving the quality of education, health care, ensuring gender equality and preserving natural resources.

It is especially important that solidarity helps to cope with global challenges such as:

Climate change. Cooperation between countries is necessary to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and protect natural resources.
Pandemics and global epidemics. Joint efforts of countries help develop vaccines, medicines and distribute them to all those in need.
Migration crises. The world community must show solidarity in helping migrants and refugees, ensuring their protection and integration.

This day is used to hold various events aimed at drawing attention to the problems of poverty, inequality and social barriers. In different countries, the following are organized:

Public campaigns to promote ideas of solidarity.
Discussions and conferences on the topic of international cooperation and social justice.
Mutual assistance campaigns and charity events.
The celebration is aimed at popularizing solidarity in society and forming a culture of mutual assistance.
