History of the holiday

In 2008, the United Nations Statistics Division proposed the idea of establishing World Statistics Day. The proposal was supported by 75 countries and international organizations. In 2010, at the 64th session of the UN General Assembly, a resolution was adopted officially establishing October 20 as World Statistics Day. The first celebration took place on October 20, 2010.
