International Pillow Fight Day is a fun and unofficial holiday that is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of April. On this day, street pillow fights are held all over the world, bringing people together for a fun and harmless entertainment.

History of the holiday
International Pillow Fight Day was created by the Urban Playground Movement, which organized various mass events in cities around the world. The first major pillow fight event was held in 2008, and since then it has become a tradition in major cities such as London, New York, Amsterdam, Tokyo and many others.

The main idea of the event is to bring back a sense of childish joy and carefree fun to city life, where participants can forget about stress and routine for a while, having a fun “war” with pillows.

How the holiday is held
On this day, thousands of people gather in the central parts of cities, armed with pillows, and arrange mass battles. These events are organized as flash mobs, where participants suddenly start a battle, turning ordinary city streets into an improvised battlefield.

Rules of participation

Usually, there are several simple rules for safe participation in the event:

Only soft pillows are used to avoid injuries.
It is not allowed to hit with pillows too hard or aim at the face.
Participants respect those who do not want to take part in the battle.

In large cities, such events gather hundreds, and sometimes thousands of people. The meeting place and time are usually announced in advance, but the element of surprise is created due to the flash mob format, when the battle begins at the same time all over the world.

Although the event is of a game nature, it is accompanied by cheerful music, participant costumes, and even some themed events that add a carnival atmosphere.
