Takanakuy is an unusual traditional festival in Peru that combines elements of carnival and ritual fights. It takes place in the Andes, mainly in the Cusco region, and symbolizes cleansing from grievances and conflicts before the beginning of the new year.

Origin and meaning
The name “Takanakuy” comes from the Quechua language and means “to hit each other” or “to strike one another.” The custom dates back to pre-Columbian times and was associated with ideas of justice and restoring harmony in the community.

* everything is accompanied by music and dances
