Black Saturday in the Philippines, also known as Holy Week Saturday or Sabado de Gloria, is an important day in the Christian calendar leading up to Easter. The day falls between Good Friday and Easter Sunday and is dedicated to reflecting on the death of Jesus Christ and looking forward to his Resurrection.

Meaning and Traditions
Silence and Anticipation. Unlike other days of Holy Week, Black Saturday is usually spent in silence. Believers reflect on the suffering and death of Jesus and prepare for the joy of Easter.

Purification and Renewal. Many Catholics participate in ceremonies to bless the water and fire. The Easter Vigil is held in the evening of the day, symbolizing the transition from darkness to light.

Blessing of the Fire. Begins with the ritual of lighting a new fire, symbolizing the light of Christ conquering the darkness.

Family Reunion. In the Philippines, Black Saturday is also a time when families gather together to share meals and prepare for Easter.
