Pakistan Day, also known as Republic Day, is celebrated annually on 23 March. The holiday commemorates two important events in the history of Pakistan: the Lahore Resolution of 1940 and the declaration of Pakistan as a republic in 1956.

Historical Context
Lahore Resolution (1940). The Lahore Resolution, also known as the Pakistan Resolution, was adopted on 23 March 1940 at the annual session of the All-India Muslim League in Lahore. It proclaimed the need for independent states for Muslims in the north-western and eastern parts of British India. The resolution became the basis for the subsequent formation of Pakistan in 1947.

Proclamation of the Republic (1956). On this day in 1956, Pakistan officially became the first Islamic republic in the world, adopting its first constitution. Prior to this, the country remained a dominion within the Commonwealth of Nations.

How is the holiday celebrated?
Military parade in Islamabad. The central event is a grand military parade that takes place in the capital of Pakistan. The parade showcases the armed forces, military equipment, and the cultural diversity of the country.

Ceremonies and events. Official ceremonies are held, including flag hoisting and speeches by senior officials. The President and Prime Minister address the nation with messages about the significance of this day.
