Qatar National Day is celebrated annually on December 18. This holiday is dedicated to the anniversary of the unification of all the tribes of Qatar into a single state under the leadership of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani in 1878. It symbolizes the independence, sovereignty and national unity of the country.

History of the holiday
In 1878, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani became the founder of modern Qatar. He united the various tribes and began to build a state, protecting it from external threats and strengthening its independence. This day was chosen as a National Day in honor of an important milestone in the history of the country.

Traditions of the celebration
Qatar National Day is accompanied by a variety of festive events:

Official ceremonies. Parades with the participation of the armed forces, police and other government agencies. Speech by the Emir and high-ranking officials of the country.

Cultural events. Traditional Qatari dances, music and poetry. Exhibitions dedicated to the history and culture of Qatar.

Fireworks and light shows. The evening sky is illuminated by large-scale fireworks displays, and skyscrapers are decorated with light installations.

Family celebrations. Citizens and residents of the country gather to celebrate an important date with family and friends. Many wear traditional attire, such as the thobe and abaya.

Sports and social events. Competitions are held, including horse racing, camel racing, and falconry exhibitions. Themed events are organized in major shopping malls and public places.
