Day of the Unification of the Romanian Principalities
January 24, Wednesday
Romanian Unification Day is celebrated annually on January 24 and is dedicated to an important historical event - the unification of the two Romanian principalities, Moldavia and Wallachia, into a single state. This event, also known as the "Little Union", took place in 1859 under the leadership of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza.Unification Day symbolizes the beginning of the process of national consolidation of Romania and national revival. This event was an important milestone in the history of the country and preceded the larger unification in 1918, when other Romanian territories, including Transylvania, were incorporated into Romania.
