Székely Freedom Day is celebrated on March 10 and is an important date for the Hungarian ethnic group of the Székelys living in Romania, especially in the Székely Land region of Transylvania. The date was not chosen by chance. On March 10, 1854, three Székely revolutionaries who fought for the rights of their people were executed in the city of Târgu Mureş. Rallies, marches and cultural events are held in their honor on this day. This day symbolizes the Székelys' struggle for autonomy and recognition of their rights and cultural identity. It is important for the Székelys, as a Hungarian national minority, to preserve their language, traditions and local self-government.
