Constitution Day in Romania is celebrated annually on December 8. This date is connected to the 1991 referendum in which citizens approved the new Constitution of the country.

What is celebrated
The holiday is dedicated to the Constitution of Romania, adopted after the fall of the communist regime. The document established a democratic form of government, citizens’ rights and freedoms, as well as a new structure of state institutions. Although the Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly in November, December 8 became the day of its popular approval.
