Day of the navigator of the Navy
January 25, Thursday
Navigator's Day of the Russian Navy is a professional holiday that is celebrated annually in Russia on January 25. It is dedicated to all servicemen of the navigation services of the Russian Navy (VMF), who are responsible for the navigation of ships, the safety of sea passages and the combat readiness of the fleet. The holiday was established by order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy in 1997. The choice of date is due to the fact that on January 25, 1701, by decree of Peter I, the Navigation School was opened in Moscow, the first educational institution in Russia for the training of professional naval officers and navigators. This event marked the beginning of the systematic training of personnel for the Russian fleet.
