Special Operations Forces Day of Russia is celebrated annually on February 27. This professional holiday is dedicated to the Russian Special Operations Forces (SOF), which perform particularly complex and strategically important tasks related to the protection and security of the state. The day was established in 2015 by a decree of the President of Russia, emphasizing the importance and special role of this unit in ensuring national security.

The Special Operations Forces were created in 2009 as part of the reform of the Armed Forces of Russia. The idea of creating such units was inspired by the experience of leading countries of the world, where similar structures existed, designed to carry out secret and highly dangerous operations. The official formation was completed in 2013, when the SOF received specialized equipment, technology and combat gear.
