Russian Animation Day is celebrated on April 8 and is dedicated to all those who work in the field of animation, as well as the history and achievements of the Russian animation industry.

History of the holiday
The date of April 8 was not chosen by chance: on this day, in 1912, the first Russian animated film was shown - "Program for automatic drawing" (or "Autograph" - in different sources it can be found under this name). This film was created by the artist Vladimir Mayakovsky and is considered one of the first steps in the development of Russian animation. Subsequently, this day was adopted as Russian Animation Day to celebrate the achievements and contribution of Russian animators to world culture.

Holiday traditions
Screenings of animated films. On this day, special events are held, including screenings of classic and modern Russian animated films, both in cinemas and in educational institutions, museums and cultural centers.

Exhibitions and master classes. Exhibitions of animators' works are held, as well as master classes that teach the basics of animation and tell about the history of Russian animation art.

Awards and festivals. Some cities host animation festivals, where awards are presented to the best Russian animators and studios for their contribution to the development of the industry.

Educational events. Schools, universities and animation studios hold lectures on Russian animation, its history and influence on world culture.
