Remembrance Day for the employees of the Russian Emergencies Ministry who died in the line of duty is celebrated annually on April 26. This date was established as a sign of respect and grief for those who, while doing their duty, sacrificed their lives to save others.

April 26 was not chosen by chance. It was on this day in 1986 that the Chernobyl disaster occurred, one of the largest man-made accidents in human history. Hundreds of firefighters and rescuers, risking their lives and health, were the first to take part in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Many of them died from the effects of radiation.
