The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the most important holidays in the Christian tradition, celebrated in both the Orthodox and Catholic churches. This holiday is dedicated to the birth of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ, and occupies a special place among other church holidays, since the Virgin Mary plays an important role in the history of the salvation of mankind.

History of the holiday
The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on September 8 according to the Gregorian calendar (September 21 according to the Julian calendar in the Orthodox tradition). Although there is no mention of the birth of Mary in the New Testament, its history goes back to apocryphal texts, such as the Protoevangelium of James, written in the early 2nd century. This text tells about Mary's parents - Joachim and Anna.

According to legend, Joachim and Anna could not have children for a long time, which was considered a great shame in ancient Jewish society. They prayed earnestly to God for a child. In response to their prayers, an angel appeared to Anna and informed her that she would give birth to a daughter who would be a blessing to the whole world. This daughter was Mary, who would later become the Mother of the Savior Jesus Christ.

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary symbolizes the beginning of the salvation of mankind, since it was through the Virgin Mary that God became incarnate in Jesus Christ. This holiday is seen as preparation for the coming events - the Nativity of Christ and the entire history of the redemption of mankind through His sacrifice.
