International Day of Women Judges

International Women Judges Day is celebrated on 10 March and was established to recognise the contribution of women to the judiciary and to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality in the judiciary.

The International Women Judges Day was first proposed by the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) and has been celebrated since 2011. This day aims not only to celebrate the achievements of women in the judiciary, but also to draw attention to the existing barriers and discrimination they face when seeking to occupy high positions in the legal system.

An important part of the holiday is the emphasis on the fact that the judicial system should be inclusive, fair and accessible to all, regardless of gender. Women judges play a key role in strengthening human rights, justice and ensuring equality in judicial practice.
