World Elephant Day is celebrated annually on August 12. The day was established in 2012 to draw attention to the problems facing elephants around the world and to call for action to protect them. Elephants are among the most majestic and intelligent animals on the planet, but they are under serious threat from poaching, habitat destruction and human activity.

Main Goals of World Elephant Day
Protect elephants. World Elephant Day aims to promote the protection of both African and Asian elephants from threats to their extinction.
Raise awareness. Organizers call for global attention to the problems of poaching, illegal ivory trade, degradation of elephant habitat and human-elephant conflict.
End cruelty to animals. Particular attention is paid to the problem of the use of elephants in the tourism industry, where they are subjected to cruel treatment, kept in captivity and used for tourist rides.
Habitat conservation. Calls for the protection of forests and savannas where elephants live are important for the conservation of these animals.

Events and participation
On this day, animal rights organizations, reserves and zoos carry out actions aimed at raising awareness about the problems of elephants.
Activists organize fundraisers to protect elephants and support projects to restore their habitat.
A campaign under the hashtag #WorldElephantDay is being held on social networks, where participants share information and photos to draw attention to the problems of these animals.
