Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language
October 27, Monday
History of the holiday
The holiday was established in 1997 by the decree of the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma. Initially, it was celebrated on November 9 — the day commemorating the Venerable Nestor the Chronicler, author of the "Primary Chronicle."
In 2023, by decree of the President of Ukraine No. 455/2023, the date of celebration was moved to October 27. This change is associated with the reform of the church calendar and the transition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine to the New Julian style.
Purpose of the holiday
The main goal of Ukrainian Writing and Language Day is to promote the Ukrainian language, support its study, develop national culture, and strengthen the sense of unity among the Ukrainian people.
How the holiday is celebrated

* conducting a national unity radio dictation that unites Ukrainians around the world;
* literary readings and exhibitions dedicated to the history of Ukrainian writing;
