Infantry Day is a professional holiday for the servicemen of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, particularly the infantry units. Its purpose is to honor the courage, heroism, and sacrifice of Ukrainian infantrymen who stand on the frontlines defending the country.

When is it celebrated?
According to the Presidential Decree of Ukraine No. 152/2019, Infantry Day is officially celebrated every year on May 6. This date was chosen for a reason — it was in early May 2014 that the Ukrainian infantry actively entered the fight for the territorial integrity of the country at the onset of Russian aggression.

Why the infantry?
The infantry is considered the "queen of battle" — it forms the backbone of any army. Ukrainian infantrymen are the first to take enemy fire on the frontlines, engage in combat under the toughest conditions, and carry out missions in cities, fields, forests, mountains, and more.

How is the holiday celebrated?
On Infantry Day, the following events are traditionally held:

- Formal ceremonies in military units
- Laying flowers at monuments to fallen soldiers
- Awarding of servicemen
- Moments of silence and prayers for the fallen
- Patriotic events and meetings with veterans

Symbolic meaning
This holiday is not only an official day to honor the military but also a symbol of strength, resilience, and dedication of the Ukrainian warrior. During the full-scale Russian invasion, the role of the infantry has become even more vital — they hold the frontlines, liberate towns and villages, and fight for every inch of native land.
