Ukrainian Volunteer Day is celebrated in Ukraine on March 14. This day was established in 2017 in memory of those who, from the very beginning of military actions in Donbas in 2014, voluntarily joined the ranks of the Ukrainian armed forces and volunteer battalions to defend the country.

History of the holiday
At the beginning of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine in 2014, when the situation required immediate intervention, numerous Ukrainian citizens, having no experience of military service, but feeling a duty to the Motherland, began to join volunteer battalions and help defend the territorial integrity of the country. These people played a key role in the first years of the war, often risking their lives in the most difficult conditions.
