Water Management Workers’ Day is a professional holiday in Ukraine, celebrated annually on the first Sunday of June. It is dedicated to specialists who manage the country's water resources.

History of the holiday
This day was established by Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 226/2003 of March 18, 2003. The goal is to emphasize the importance of the work of those who manage, use and protect water resources, as well as develop hydraulic structures.

Importance of water management
Water management plays a key role in the life of the country. It includes:

* supplying water to the population and economic sectors
* regulating river flows and preventing floods
* managing irrigation and drainage systems
* ecological control of water quality
* maintaining the operation of hydraulic structures

Who celebrates it
The holiday is celebrated by:

* employees of the State Agency for Water Resources of Ukraine
* hydraulic engineers
* ecologists
* specialists in water supply and sewerage
* all those who work in the field of rational use and protection of water resources

Traditions and greetings
On this day:

* ceremonial meetings and awards for the best workers are held
* ecological campaigns and clean-up events near water bodies are organized
* certificates, diplomas and other recognitions are presented
* official greetings are published by national and sector leaders
