Norfolk Foundation Day is celebrated annually on March 6 on Norfolk Island, an external territory of Australia located in the Pacific Ocean. The day commemorates the arrival of the first European settlers on the island in 1788, when Captain Philip Gidley King and a group of 15 men landed on the island to establish a settlement.

How Norfolk Foundation Day is Celebrated
Parades and Official Ceremonies. The islanders hold parades and ceremonies to honor the founders and early settlers. Representatives of the local government and community organizations often attend the celebration.

Historical Reenactments. On this day, reenactments of the events of the arrival of the first Europeans, as well as scenes from the lives of the Pitcairn mutineers, are held, allowing residents and visitors to the island to learn more about the history of Norfolk.

Cultural Events and Folklore Performances. The islanders are proud of their traditions, which mix European and Polynesian heritage. Cultural programs include dance, music, and traditional dishes typical of the island.

Sports competitions. The island also hosts sporting events and competitions to help build community cohesion.
