National Croissant Day is celebrated in the United States on January 30. It is a holiday dedicated to one of the most famous and beloved baked goods, the croissant, which is distinguished by its flaky texture and buttery flavor.

Although the croissant is associated with France, its roots actually begin in Austria. According to legend, in 1683, a Viennese baker created a crescent-shaped bun (a symbol of the Ottoman Empire) to celebrate the victory over the Ottomans during the siege of Vienna. This pastry eventually made its way to France and evolved into the famous croissant.

In France, the croissant became popular due to the use of puff pastry, which gives it a light and crispy texture. Croissants have become an integral part of French culture, served for breakfast, in cafes, and bakeries.
