History of the Tragedy
Boston Marathon Bombing (April 15, 2013). During the 116th Boston Marathon, two terrorists, brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, carried out a series of explosions in downtown Boston. The explosions occurred near the finish line of the marathon, where many people had gathered, including runners and spectators.

The aftermath of the explosions. Three people were killed in the attack, including an 8-year-old boy. More than 260 people were injured, many of whom were seriously injured, lost limbs, or suffered other serious injuries.

The violence prompted significant changes in public safety and security, and was a stark reminder of the need to combat terrorism and extremism.
