National 911 Day is observed in the United States on February 11. The date was chosen intentionally: 11/2 symbolically reflects the single emergency telephone number 9-1-1, which is used in the country to call for help in emergencies.

History of the holiday
The 911 number was first introduced in 1968 in Haleyville, Alabama. Before that, citizens had to call different numbers to reach the police, fire department, or ambulance, which slowed down response times. The new number became a universal and convenient way to contact emergency services. Gradually, the system spread across the country and became an important part of the safety infrastructure.

Traditions
On this day, various events take place in the United States to raise awareness about the 911 service and how to use it correctly:

* Educational programs in schools where children are taught when and how to call 911 properly.
* Meetings with emergency service personnel demonstrating their work.
* Media campaigns reminding the public of the importance of the 911 service.
* Public expressions of gratitude to operators and dispatchers of the emergency service.

Significance of the holiday
National 911 Day reminds society of the importance of using the 911 line correctly. It also emphasizes the role of dispatchers, who are the first to receive calls and assist people in crisis situations.
