National Peace Corps Day is celebrated annually on March 1 in honor of the organization's founding in 1961.

History of the Holiday
On March 1, 1961, U.S. President John F. Kennedy signed an executive order establishing the Peace Corps, aimed at providing assistance to developing countries by sending American volunteers. The U.S. Congress officially approved the establishment of the Peace Corps on September 22, 1961, by passing the corresponding legislation.

Mission and Activities
The Peace Corps is an independent federal agency of the U.S. government that sends volunteers to various countries to promote economic and social development. Volunteers work in fields such as education, healthcare, agriculture, environmental protection, and information technology, contributing to the improvement of local communities' quality of life.

National Peace Corps Day serves as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation and mutual assistance, as well as the significant contributions of volunteers to global development.
