Mother Whistler Day is an annual unofficial holiday celebrated on May 18. Despite the name, it is not directly related to the famous painting *Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1* (more commonly known as *Whistler’s Mother*), painted by American artist James Abbott McNeill Whistler. Instead, the holiday is dedicated to the art of whistling and everyone who knows how to whistle.

Origin of the Holiday
The exact reason for choosing May 18 remains unknown. However, an issue of *The Journal Herald* from May 18, 1977, mentions that "today is the birthday of Whistler’s mother," which may have inspired the creation of the holiday. It is also reported that a group from Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, initiated this day and calls for "it’s time to whistle while working, playing, or whatever you’re doing."

How Mother Whistler Day is Celebrated
The celebration includes various activities related to whistling:

* Practicing whistling in everyday life.
* Participating in whistling contests.
* Listening to songs that feature whistling, such as "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin, "Moves like Jagger" by Maroon 5, and others.
* Visiting the *Whistler's Mother* statue in Ashland, Pennsylvania.
* Watching the movie *Mr. Bean* (1997), where the painting *Whistler’s Mother* plays a key role in the plot.

Significance of the Holiday
Mother Whistler Day serves as a reminder of the simple joys of life and encourages people to express themselves through whistling. It is also an opportunity to learn more about the art of whistling and its role in culture and music.
