Whooping Crane Day is celebrated annually on May 28 and is dedicated to the conservation of one of the rarest and most majestic birds in North America — the whooping crane (Grus americana).

History and Significance
At the beginning of the 20th century, the population of whooping cranes was rapidly declining due to hunting and habitat loss. By 1941, only 21 individuals remained in the wild. Thanks to habitat restoration efforts and captive breeding programs, the crane population gradually increased, reaching around 800 individuals by 2020.

Despite these successes, the whooping crane remains an endangered species and faces threats such as habitat loss, pollution, illegal hunting, and climate change.
