National Love Your Red Hair Day
November 5, Wednesday
History of the holiday
The holiday was founded in 2015 by sisters Erika and Adriana Witworth, creators of the project “How to be a Redhead.” They decided to create this day to inspire people with red hair to embrace their individuality and to stand up against stereotypes and mockery that redheads often face.
Meaning of the holiday
National Love Your Red Hair Day is a day of self-acceptance, confidence, and pride in one’s natural uniqueness. The holiday reminds everyone that red hair is not just rare (only about 1–2% of the world’s population has it), but also a symbol of individuality, strength, and brightness.
How it is celebrated
1. People with red hair post their photos on social media with the hashtags #LoveYourRedHairDay and #RedheadPride.
2. Themed gatherings, photoshoots, and flash mobs dedicated to redheads are organized.
3. Hairdressers and stylists share tips on red hair care, and brands release special collections for redheads.
4. Those without red hair show their support by talking about the beauty and uniqueness of red-haired people.
Interesting fact
Scientists claim that red hair is linked to the MC1R gene, which also makes the skin more sensitive to sunlight and affects pain perception. This gene makes red-haired people truly unique—not only in appearance but also biologically.
