History
International Tango Day was officially established in 1977 on the initiative of Argentine musician Ben Molara, who sought to pay tribute to the two greatest representatives of tango - Gardel and De Caro. This day has become a symbol not only of musical and dance art, but also of the cultural heritage that tango left in Argentina and far beyond its borders.
Tango originated in the poor areas of Buenos Aires and Montevideo in the late 19th century, where the cultures of European immigrants, African slaves and indigenous peoples intersected. Initially, tango was danced in port areas and bars, and for a long time it was considered a dance of the lower classes. However, over time, tango gained popularity among all strata of the population and gained international recognition.
Tango combines elements of European, African and Latin American rhythms. It is distinguished by its deep emotional content, expressed in smooth, passionate movements and a special rhythm of music. The main themes of tango songs and dances are love, passion, jealousy and nostalgia.

International Tango Day is especially widely celebrated in Argentina and Uruguay, where tango is an integral part of cultural life. Numerous events take place on this day, including:
Milongas – traditional dance parties where both professional and amateur couples gather to dance to live tango music.
