Maundy Thursday is a Christian holiday celebrated on the Thursday of Holy Week, the day before Easter. This day is dedicated to the memory of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples, when, according to the Gospels, Jesus instituted the Sacrament of the Eucharist (Holy Communion). Maundy Thursday is an important part of the preparation for Easter and reminds believers of the importance of service, humility and love for one's neighbor.

Biblical Significance of Maundy Thursday
The Last Supper. According to Christian tradition, Jesus Christ gathered his disciples for the last meal before his crucifixion. At the Last Supper, He broke bread and gave it to the disciples, saying, "This is my body," and then offered them wine, saying, "This is my blood." This act marked the beginning of the Sacrament of the Eucharist, which has become a central part of Christian worship.
Washing of the feet. At the Last Supper, Jesus also washed the feet of his disciples, setting an example of humility and service to others. This gesture symbolizes the call to service and submission, which is an important element of the Christian faith.
Prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. After the meal, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane, where he prayed before his arrest. This moment is often seen as an example of devotion to God's will despite the suffering that lay ahead.

Traditions of Maundy Thursday
Services and liturgies. On this day, churches hold special services that include the reading of the Gospels about the Last Supper, the washing of feet, and the Sacrament of the Eucharist. In some churches, priests repeat Jesus' gesture by washing the feet of parishioners.
Sacrament of Communion. In the Orthodox and Catholic traditions, Maundy Thursday is one of the main days for participation in Holy Communion. Believers, by partaking of bread and wine, remember the sacrifice of Christ and strengthen their faith.
Washing of feet. In the Catholic Church, priests sometimes symbolically wash the feet of twelve parishioners as a sign of humility and service, imitating Jesus.
Preparation for Easter. Maundy Thursday marks the beginning of the last days of Holy Week leading up to Easter. Many believers on this day begin the final preparations for the holiday: cleaning their homes, decorating, baking Easter bread.
