World Water Day
March 22, Friday
World Water Day is celebrated annually on 22 March. The day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1993 to raise awareness of the importance of water for life and the need for its sustainable use and protection. Water is one of the most important natural resources, and its availability, quality and management are of great importance for human health and well-being, as well as for the planet’s ecosystems. Objectives of World Water Day
Raising awareness. World Water Day aims to draw attention to global issues related to water supply and sanitation, as well as the importance of preserving water resources.
Promoting sustainable use of water. The holiday focuses on the need for responsible and rational use of water, especially in the context of global climate change and increasing resource consumption.
Access to clean water for all. The UN aims to guarantee access to clean drinking water for all people in the world, especially in developing countries, where many still face water and sanitation shortages.
Supporting international programmes and initiatives. World Water Day aims to support international programs to protect aquatic ecosystems, improve water supply systems, and develop rational water use methods.
How World Water Day is celebrated
Educational events. Schools, universities, and other educational institutions organize lectures, seminars, and thematic lessons devoted to water issues and their protection.
Campaigns and environmental events. Many countries hold events aimed at cleaning reservoirs, planting trees along waterways, and campaigns to reduce water pollution.
Awareness campaigns. The UN and other international organizations conduct awareness campaigns to draw attention to water issues through social networks, television programs, publications, and documentaries.
Participation of public organizations. NGOs and environmental organizations conduct campaigns aimed at improving water supply, protecting aquatic ecosystems, and drawing attention to water security issues.
