David Hamilton Jackson (1884–1946) was an active labor rights advocate, journalist, and public figure in the Virgin Islands. He achieved the abolition of censorship on independent newspapers during the colonial period and founded the first free newspaper, “The Herald.” Jackson was also a leader of the labor union movement on the island of St. Croix, fighting for better working conditions and workers' rights. When the Virgin Islands transferred from Danish rule to U.S. administration in 1917, Jackson advocated for granting American citizenship to the islanders.
