World AIDS Day is observed annually on December 1 and was established in 1988 to draw attention to the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, raise awareness of the problems associated with the disease, and support people living with HIV and their families.

Goals of World AIDS Day
Raising awareness. The main goal of this day is to inform people about HIV and AIDS, how the virus is transmitted and methods of prevention. Education helps to dispel myths and prejudices surrounding the disease.

Support for people living with HIV. World AIDS Day provides an opportunity for support and solidarity with people living with HIV, as well as their families and loved ones.

Raising attention to a global problem. The HIV/AIDS epidemic continues to be a serious global problem. This day helps to focus attention on the shortcomings in access to health care and essential drugs, especially in developing countries.

Raising funds and resources. The day also includes fundraising events to support programs aimed at combating HIV/AIDS and improving health services for people living with the disease.

The Importance of Awareness
Awareness about HIV/AIDS and its consequences is crucial to preventing the spread of the virus. Key points to remember:

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks a person's immune system, making them more susceptible to infections and diseases.
AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is the late stage of HIV infection, in which the immune system is severely damaged.
HIV is spread through blood, semen, vaginal secretions, and breast milk, but is not spread through casual contact such as hugging, shaking hands, or using public toilets.

World AIDS Day is an important time to remind society of the importance of the fight against HIV/AIDS and the need to support those living with the disease.
