The Public and Government Officials' Day (Hungarian: *A köztisztviselők és kormánytisztviselők napja*) is a professional holiday celebrated annually in Hungary on July 1. It is dedicated to people working in government bodies, municipal institutions, and the administrative structures of the country.

History of the holiday
The holiday was established in 2001 by a decision of the Hungarian Parliament as the Public Servants' Day. Later, in 2011, government officials were officially included. Thus, the day began to cover a broader category of employees involved in the state administrative system.

The date was chosen in connection with the adoption of the Civil Service Act in 1992, which came into effect precisely on July 1. This document laid the legal foundations for the functioning of the public service in Hungary.

Purpose of the holiday

* Recognition of the importance of the work of public servants and officials
* Emphasizing their role in ensuring the stable functioning of the state
* Strengthening corporate culture within administrative structures
* Enhancing the prestige of professions related to governance and public regulation

How it is celebrated

* Organization of festive events within government institutions
* Presentation of awards and honorary diplomas to distinguished employees
* Holding round tables, conferences, and seminars on public administration issues
* Possibility of an additional day off for staff (depending on the institution's decision)

Significance for Hungarian society
This day highlights the importance of professionalism, responsibility, and transparency in the work of state authorities. It serves as a reminder that effective public administration is impossible without qualified and dedicated specialists. The Public and Government Officials' Day contributes to raising respect for this field and strengthens citizens' trust in public institutions.
