On 26 November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of the country. The document came into force on 26 January 1950, the day celebrated as Republic Day.
Officially, Constitution Day was established in 2015 to emphasize the importance of the Constitution and to promote its values. The date was also chosen in honor of the significant contribution of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the chairman of the committee that drafted the Constitution.
