National Day in Liechtenstein, known as "Staatsfeiertag," is the country's official national holiday. It is celebrated annually on August 15th and marks both the Feast of the Assumption (a Catholic religious holiday) and the celebration of Liechtenstein's national identity and unity.

History
The holiday was first celebrated in 1940. The date was chosen to coincide with the religious Feast of the Assumption and also to honor the reigning Prince’s birthday, which was close to that date. Over time, August 15th became a symbol of national pride and unity for the people of Liechtenstein.

Celebrations
National Day is celebrated with a variety of events and traditions, including:

- A public address by the Prince of Liechtenstein and government officials
- A reception in the gardens of Vaduz Castle, where citizens can meet the royal family
- Cultural performances and exhibitions throughout the capital, Vaduz
- A festive atmosphere with food stalls, music, and entertainment
- A large fireworks display in the evening to conclude the celebrations

Significance
National Day is a unique opportunity for the people of Liechtenstein to come together and celebrate their heritage, independence, and monarchy. It is one of the few occasions when the royal family opens the castle grounds to the public, symbolizing the close relationship between the monarchy and the citizens.

Public Holiday
August 15th is a public holiday in Liechtenstein, and most businesses, schools, and government offices are closed for the day. It is a time for families and communities to gather and enjoy the festivities.
