Russian Navy Intelligence Day is celebrated annually on February 18. This professional holiday was established in honor of the merits of the Navy intelligence units, their important role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of the Russian maritime service.

Naval intelligence in Russia began to develop back in imperial times, but special attention was paid to it after World War II, when activity on the sea borders and in strategic areas of the world's oceans increased significantly. Naval intelligence officers collect information on the movements of foreign fleets, the enemy's status and weapons, and monitor potential threats.
