Windrush Day is a commemorative date observed annually on June 22 in the United Kingdom. It honors the contributions of Afro-Caribbean migrants from the so-called "Windrush generation" who arrived in the UK after World War II, starting in 1948.

Historical Context
On June 22, 1948, the ship "HMT Empire Windrush" docked at Tilbury Port in Essex, bringing approximately 500 citizens from Caribbean countries, including Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and others. This event marked the symbolic beginning of mass migration to the UK from the British Commonwealth.

Purpose and Significance of the Holiday
Windrush Day was established in 2018 by the UK government to:

* Recognize the contributions of the Windrush generation and their descendants to British society, economy, and culture;
* Honor the memory of individuals who faced discrimination, injustice, and bureaucratic challenges due to the "Windrush scandal";
* Promote intercultural dialogue and respect for diversity.

Commemorative Activities
On this day, various events take place across the country, including:

* Concerts and cultural festivals;
* Exhibitions showcasing migration and Afro-Caribbean community history;
* Educational seminars and school lessons;
* Ceremonies honoring and expressing gratitude to members of the Windrush generation.

The Windrush Scandal
Since the 2010s, cases have emerged where members of the Windrush generation and their descendants, despite decades of residence in the UK, were deemed "illegal immigrants." This led to job losses, denial of healthcare, deportations, and ruined lives. Windrush Day also serves as a reminder of the need for fair treatment of migrants.
