National Nanotechnology Day
October 9, Thursday

History of the holiday
The holiday was established by the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) in 2016. Its purpose is to draw public attention to the achievements of nanotechnology and its role in everyday life.
Significance
Nanotechnology is the science of manipulating matter at the level of atoms and molecules. Thanks to it, innovations have been developed in medicine, electronics, energy, ecology, and many other fields. National Nanotechnology Day reminds us how small particles can have a huge impact on the world.
Traditions
On this day, the following activities take place:
* Educational lectures and seminars at universities and research centers
* Demonstrations and exhibitions of nanotechnology achievements
* Online events, quizzes, and interactive projects dedicated to nanoscience
* Publications and campaigns with the hashtag #NationalNanoDay
Interesting facts
* A nanometer is so small that about 80,000–100,000 nanometers fit in a human hair.
* Nanotechnology is already used in antimicrobial coatings, solar panels, sportswear, and even cosmetics.
Status of the holiday
National Nanotechnology Day is not an official public holiday, but it is actively celebrated by scientific organizations, universities, researchers, and engineers across the country.
