Here are some recommendations to observe this day effectively:
* install special fire safety stickers on windows and doors indicating pets are in the house;
* do not leave pets unattended near stoves, candles, or heaters;
* create and rehearse an evacuation plan considering where pets might be;
* keep carriers, leashes, and documents in an accessible place;
* install cameras or monitoring systems if the pet is often home alone.
Interesting fact:
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, about 1,000 house fires annually are caused by pets — most often due to stoves and appliances being left on. But thanks to preventive measures and proper actions, lives of both animals and people can be saved.
