Vietnam Independence Day is celebrated annually on September 2. It is one of the main national holidays of the country, symbolizing Vietnam's liberation from colonial rule and the birth of an independent republic.

History of the holiday
On September 2, 1945, in Hanoi, at Ba Dinh Square, Viet Minh leader Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam. This event marked the beginning of the creation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam after the end of World War II and Japan's surrender.

Celebration traditions
The holiday is accompanied by mass events across the country.

* In the capital Hanoi and other major cities, ceremonial rallies, concerts, and patriotic events are held.
* Parades, marches, and demonstrations with flags and national symbols take place.
* Citizens decorate homes and streets with red flags featuring a gold star.
* In the evening, fireworks are often held in the cities.

Significance for the country
Independence Day reminds the Vietnamese people of the long struggle for freedom and self-determination. This holiday unites citizens, strengthens national pride, and honors Ho Chi Minh, who is regarded as the "father of the nation."
