Independence Day of the Republic of Nicaragua (Día de la Independencia) is celebrated annually on September 15. This holiday is dedicated to the proclamation of independence of the Central American countries from Spain in 1821, including Nicaragua.

History of the holiday
Nicaragua, along with other Central American countries (Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala), gained independence from Spanish colonial rule on September 15, 1821. This day became a symbol of national freedom and sovereignty. Since gaining independence, the celebration of this date has been an important part of national identity and patriotic education of citizens.

How it is celebrated

Government institutions hold official ceremonies with the raising of the national flag and the performance of the national anthem. Sports events, exhibitions, and festive processions are also organized, in which both adults and children participate, demonstrating national pride and unity.
